We are pleased to announce the Advanced Course on Laryngectomy Techniques, Pharynx Reconstruction, Voice Restoration, and Management of Complications in collaboration with a focus on technique building, the MDT approach.

Learning Objectives

  • Flap surgery technique – the ENT perspective
  • Surgical refinements for optimized voice and swallowing outcomes
  • Cadaveric session:
  • Animal specimen hands on: airway creation
  • Primary versus secondary puncture - a debate on the evidence or have we decided?
  • VP troubleshooting - algorithm for speech pathology and medical intervention in an emergency
  • Pre surgery considerations for enhanced post operative recovery

When: Friday 1st November 8:30AM to 5PM & Saturday 2nd November 2024 9AM to 5PM

Audience:

      • Unaccredited doctors with a specialist interest in Head and Neck surgery or ENT surgical trainees
      • Head and Neck Consultant surgeons within 2 years of appointment
      • Senior Speech Pathologists with 5 years+ experience in Head and Neck

      Cost: $500 for Doctors / $250 for Speech Pathologists and other Healthcare Professionals

      Meet Our Presenters

      Dr. Eduard Pudel is a Melbourne-based ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon with special interests in sinus surgery, rhinoplasty, paediatric hearing loss, obstructive sleep apnoea and head neck tumour surgery. Dr. Pudel was born in the Ukraine and moved to Australia in search of a better life with his parents in 1987. He conducted his medical school, surgical training and specialisation in Australia between 1993 and 2007. He spent an additional year in Ireland undertaking an ENT fellowship and began his private practice in Brighton upon his return in 2008.

      Dr. Kevin Nguyen is a first generation Australian migrant and was a Vietnamese boat refugee. In 2008, he completed Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medical Science through The University of Melbourne. Dr. Nguyen went on to complete his internship and residency at Austin Health before commencing advanced surgical training in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery; a national specialty training program for Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In 2017, Dr. Nguyen completed his advanced surgical training and became a board certified specialist as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He continued on a path to sub-specialise in Head & Neck Oncology, Robotic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery through a fellowship at one of Australia’s leading cancer centres- Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Hospital, NSW. Dr. Nguyen has public appointments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Eastern Health.

      Alanna Bowen is a speech pathologist with 15 years of clinical experience in assessment and management of swallow, speech and voice impairments across various diagnoses. Alanna is passionate about working with patients who have undergone treatment for head and neck cancer, including laryngectomy, using person centred care to achieve improved functional, and quality of life outcomes. She completed a Master of Cancer Sciences at Melbourne University in 2022 which compliments her clinical skills. Alanna has presented at local and national conferences, as well as being co-chair of the Victorian Head and Neck Cancer Special Interest Group.
